Hmm, Instagram cross-posting to Tumblr seems to be broken for me. Anyway, here is (was?) a TARDIS.

Today in fun math facts: the minimum of x^x is at x=1/e

I had so much fun trying to find this out with Grapher during 8th grade. Hence I was also very excited when I found out the trick for differentiating $x^x$.

Missed it by a few years…

Damn. I wish I’d been old enough to be able to solve puzzles and comprehend GEB and aware enough of what Mystery Hunt was to compete.

(Hmm, I reblogged this by accident? In any case, I do agree, and GEB is my favorite book. I haven’t participated in an MIT mystery hunt yet, so I feel like I’m still missing out on that part. Congratulations to Manic Sages, though.)

dancehacks:

Get a bit more

This one isn’t actually a dance song, but it’s hilarious, and the internet apparently doesn’t know about it yet. “Get a bit more” appears to be a promotional song from Siemens produced for some European industrial, event where my dad picked up a mini-CD with three versions of this.

While it almost sounds like a plausible pop song, the lyrics are hilariously full of buzzwords. (In fact, I didn’t think I’d ever find a more absurd pseudo-pop-song — but then came Rebecca Black’s endearingly mundane Friday.)

The CD also contained an alternate mix (fewer buzzwords) and an instrumental version; let me know if you’d care for either of those.

Lyrics:

“Get a bit more”
Promotional Song by Siemens
circa 2000
100 BPM

(Get a bit more…)
Step into the world of totally integrated automation.
A quantum leap in process industry.
(Get a bit more…)
A technology that links all your systems, from upstream… through mainstream… to downstream.

0:54
(Get a bit more…)
Totally integrated automation.
(Get a bit more…)
Setting the standard.
(Get a bit more…)

1:25
(Get a bit more…)
Step into the world of totally integrated automation.
(Get a bit more…)
Siemens gives you the unique opportunity… to get a bit more.
(Get a bit more…)

2:03
Get a bit more of the control joining your systems to the core.
Get even better than you’ve ever been before.
We have the total integration that will help you get a bit more.
Harness the power, the time is now: get a bit more…
Get a bit more coordination of the power…
(Get a bit more…)
Get a bit more of the solution you need.
We give you more of the automation that will help you get a bit more.
One single mind where there were many before.
Get a bit more.
